UGC lowers NET criteria for OBC students

February 28, 2014 at 09:45PM

The University Grants Commission Thursday approved a key proposal to lower eligibility criteria for OBC students appearing for the National Eligibility Test (NET) that determines entry into teaching at higher education institutes.

While so far, OBC candidates appearing for NET had to score a minimum of 60 per cent to be eligible, they will now be given a 5 per cent relaxation. OBC candidates with 55 per cent aggregate scores in three subjects will now be able to appear. OBC candidates will now be on a par with SC/ST candidates who also enjoy a 55 per cent qualifying score. The University Grants Commission Thursday approved a key proposal to lower eligibility criteria for OBC students appearing for the National Eligibility Test (NET) that determines entry into teaching at higher education institutes.

The relaxation for OBC candidates has been given keeping in mind that a number of OBC and SC/ST teaching positions remain vacant. There are over 40 per cent faculty vacancies across Central universities and the bulk are said to be in the SC/ST and OBC category. The move is also driven following a court case where this issue was brought up.

The UGC also approved Private Universities Regulation that will now bring them under greater control of the higher education regulator. The new regulations say private universities will no longer be able to offer open and distance learning courses as there are serious commercial angles to them. The new regulations propose to place a new restriction on state private universities — that they seek concurrence of UGC before offering a new academic programme. They will also have to seek the concurrence of both the UGC and the Union HRD Ministry before opening an off campus or off shore campus, sources said.

Against new decision...

Itz a great move, bt i am facing a problem that i belong to Resident of Backword Aera (RBA) catgory. This catagory in not falling in obc catagory, due to this reason i am appering in general catagory since dec 2011 & droping by few points everytime.

I have a kindly requst to ugc that include RBA catagory in OBC.

Finish ds catagory system these r dividing education.
There should be open catagory for all.

I want ugc to include RBA category under OBC . why we RBA have been left at par with open category while we r not entertaining the same facilities as open category have.

I am Against the reservation system in higher education body, reservation should only given on the basis of present economic condition of candidate not in intellectual field.

Kaisa Lagega agar universities bhi alag alag ho jaaye or universities mein sab professor bhi sc st or obc hongay .mujhe samajh mahi aata kis had tak kota continue rahega jab ek person school mein admission leta haii us waqt kota college mein admission qualifying entrance par job par. aakhir kb tak . jb ek person job mein pahuch gya that means he is no longer st sc obc. sooner in india aal govt sector will be filled by sc st obc and gen will become pichdi jaati.

its my humble request to ugc authorities to include RBA in obc category .

kya yahan kisi ne political science ka UGC-NET ka dec. 2013,Ka exam diya hai, share your views regarding the official answer keys of political Science dec. 2013 provided by ugc for feedback.........

i want to know that when this scheme is considered for obc students? Is it from 2014 june or before?

What about general candidates this is too much

what about general candidates.this is too much

Top 15% in each category criteria tha net pass hone ke liye. Obc ke liye 60% kab that. And merit differ hoti hai har subject me to kaise balance banega please samjhhaiye

Its against the ugc 's reputation now we will get the prof like sc st. We general completely helpless

First ugc notice jun2012 gr-65,obc-60,sc,St,ph-55 maximum percentage are net qualified but some time every categories and subjects top 15% net qualified now in this site obc 55%, but ugc not upload any notice so it's wrong no time west and study properly.

great. and thanx admin for this info.

When UGC publishes Grievance Answer key related Results for UGC-NET, JUNE 2013?
I have applied with Rs. 5000/-.for shortage of 12 marks.

When it is matter of Intelligency then there should be category system, is this means that obc, sc, st etc are less intelligent than General category ?? and these people are happy to take this undue advantage ?? Yes, on financial basis UGC may help them.. in that there is no issues.. Pls. revert on this..

I was with 56 per cent in average this Dec 2013 net, could not qualify. Had it 55per cent earlier......
